431-3498 Attendance Office
Students should be on campus when the first bell rings at 8:25 a.m. Students not in class by 8:29 a.m., when the second bell rings, will be considered tardy. Students who are tardy in excess of 10 minutes will receive a period cut.
b Calif. State law requires regular school attendance.
b Absences are only excused for student illness, medical or dental appointments, or funerals of immediate family members. All other absences are unexcused.
b Parent or guardian must clear absences within two days. Absences that are not cleared will be considered a truancy.
b Please call the attendance line @ 431-3412, either the evening before or on the morning of the absence. If this is not possible, please send a signed note to the attendance office with the student at the time he or she returns to school.
b The Auto-Caller calls daily for uncleared absences and will allow you to leave a message regarding the absence.
b A student must obtain an admission slip from the attendance office before class on the day he/she returns to school after an absence of one or more periods.
b If a student is late to school for any reason, he/she must report to the attendance office before attending class.
b Detention will be assigned for repeated tardies.
b Students who do not attend their assigned class or activity or who are habitually tardy will be considered truant (Education Code 48260).
b Students with patterns of unexcused absences, excessive excused absences and/or habitual tardies will be referred to the School Attendance Review Board (SARB) for discussion and/or disciplinary action.
Students who are ill more than 14 days in a school year will be required to have a physician’s excuse.
Homework requests
Homework may be requested for students who have an excused absence of three or more days. Parents may call 431-3412 and leave a message requesting homework. Requests that are called in before 11:00am will be available for pick up in the office after 3:00pm. Requests made after 11:00am will be available the following day after 3:00pm. Students who are absent less than 3 days are asked to call their “Study Buddy” or check the website.
Planned Absences
When it is necessary for your child to miss school (5 day minimum) due to family obligations, the state allows us to offer Independent Study Contracts. Requests must be submitted to the attendance office at least five school days before departure. Completed Independent Study work must be returned on the day that the student returns to school. Failure to return completed work will result in the absence being unexcused. Grades will also be affected. Attendance is credited based on the quality of the work submitted as well as quantity.
When an absence of less than five days is planned, students should make arrangements regarding required work with their teachers before the absence begins.
