Disaster Drills

Fire

The school fire alarm will sound.  All students will leave the classroom or instructional areas and go to designated safety zones. If students are at recess or lunch they are to go to designated safety zones on the field. (Teachers are to go to the field and meet with their First Period class.) Doors and windows are to be closed. A class roster and emergency pack taken.  Three long bells signal all clear.

 Earthquake

No alarm will sound. The adult in charge is to give the instruction “Duck and Cover”. Everyone should immediately assume the “duck, cover and hold” position (head tucked, with face covered by arms and hands) under their desks, with backs to the windows.

Once the quake stops, evacuate the building as in a fire drill. Be aware of any potential danger such as power lines or overhangs.  Three long bells indicate it is all clear and OK to return to class.

 Lock Down

Use this for chemical spills, falling aircraft, drive by shooting, civil disturbance, unsafe condition exists, etc.

Indicated by announcement over PA system "Secure Building."

Students are to take the “duck, cover and hold” position in the classroom. All windows are to be closed with drapes drawn, doors are to be shut and locked, and electrical equipment such as lights turned off.

Students outside are to immediately go to the nearest indoor location. (gym, multi-purpose room, office, library or classrooms)

Remain this way until you receive directions as to what to do – the fire alarm ringing indicates you are to evacuate the building.  Three long bells indicate all clear.

Note:  Three long bells mean all clear, not a single bell.
