Healdsburg Junior High School

K-8 Homestudy

Students in grades K through 8 can utilize the homestudy instructional option as an alternative to classroom instruction in certain qualifying cases.

The homestudy teacher meets regularly with the parent and student to provide curriculum consultation, instructional materials, and professional guidance, with assignments and evaluation. Homestudy supervising teachers are fully certificated, with experience teaching at several grade levels. Many homeschooling families network with other homeschooling families in the area for social activities and field trips.

Enrollment in homestudy must be approved by the administration through an interview process which takes into consideration the student's academic and general circumstances. Special Education students may not enroll in homestudy unless specifically indicated through the IEP process. The district follows the guidelines provided by the California Department of Education in its policies.

Only full-time homestudy enrollments are allowed, although many homestudy students at the junior high level are concurrently enrolled in up to two regular campus core classes such as math, science, or PE, and others may enjoy the opportunity to participate in band and athletic team sports.  Within reason, homestudy students have available to them most all of the services available to regular on-campus students, such as library use and counseling.
